Which Course is Right for My Child?
There is an abundance of different courses available for your child. It can feel like a minefield!
You might choose individual one-to-one tuition. Otherwise you might prefer weekly group classes taking place face-to-face or online. There are "one-off" courses for interview practice or practising specific skills. There are a range of short intensive courses taking place during the school holidays. You have the option to book different courses with different providers. This can be a great way to make the learning process more interesting for your child. So how to decide what is best for your child?
Useful questions to consider before booking a course:
- Course content: What exactly will the course cover? Is this what my child needs to progress?
Is now the right time?
- Student numbers: How many children will be in the class?
What is the ratio of child to adult? This will make a significant difference to the class dynamics and your child's opportunity to progress. You want a class size in which your child is not left out and forgotten; a class where they will be actively encouraged and have plenty of teacher support.
- Who is leading the course?
What experience do they have?
Do they have the right expertise for my child and the exams they will sit?
- Assessment and Feedback: How will my child's progress be assessed?
How will I receive feedback and support to plan the next steps for my child?
